Sunrise Senior Living has been recognized for its dedication to creating healthy living environments, achieving the WELL Health-Safety Rating for the second consecutive year across more than 200 communities.
Commitment to Health and Safety
Sunrise Senior Living, a leading provider of senior care services, has once again demonstrated its commitment to fostering healthy environments for its residents and staff. The organization achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating from the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) for the second year in a row, covering over 200 of its communities across the United States and Canada. This rating is a third-party verified recognition that highlights organizations prioritizing well-being through sustainable building operations.
The WELL Health-Safety Rating assesses several key factors, including air and water quality, cleaning procedures, emergency preparedness, health resources, and stakeholder engagement. By addressing these areas, Sunrise Senior Living continues to set new standards in the senior living industry.
“At Sunrise Senior Living, we recognize that the well-being of our residents and team members is intrinsically linked to the health of the environments in which they live and work,” said Jack R. Callison, CEO of Sunrise Senior Living. “By prioritizing sustainable building practices, green operations, and holistic wellness programs, we are not only enhancing the quality of life for our residents but also setting new standards in the senior living industry.”
Industry-Leading Achievements
Sunrise operates more than 240 communities, offering independent living, assisted living, memory care, nursing, and rehabilitative services. Last year, Sunrise became the largest senior living provider to adopt the WELL Health-Safety Rating for Facility Operations and Management across its entire portfolio. To date, more than 600 senior living communities worldwide have committed to or achieved the WELL Health-Safety Rating or WELL Certification from IWBI.
In a significant achievement, The Apsley by Sunrise in Manhattan received WELL Certification Platinum, making it the only assisted living community in the nation to reach this level of recognition. Additionally, Sunrise East 56th in Manhattan was the first and only senior living building to receive LEED Silver, WELL Certification at the Silver level, and the WELL Health-Safety Rating designation in 2021.
Recognitions and Awards
In 2023, Sunrise Senior Living was honored with the Health and Safety Leadership Award from IWBI, further solidifying its position as a leader in the industry. The organization’s ongoing environmental wellness initiatives include sustainable building practices, energy-efficient designs, and the use of eco-friendly materials in new construction and renovations. Sunrise’s green operations also integrate practices like waste reduction and recycling programs, alongside wellness programs that address the physical, mental, and emotional well-being of residents.
Additionally, 40 Sunrise communities received Energy Star certifications for 2024, showcasing their commitment to energy efficiency. Notably, Sunrise of Windsor earned the 2024 Energy Star Canada Award for the Building of the Year — Senior Living Community and Residential Care Facility.
