Discovery Village Deerwood

10660 Validus Drive in Jacksonville is home to Discovery Village Deerwood, an independent living community operated by Discovery Senior Living. The community is built for adults who want to give up home maintenance and cooking without giving up an active routine. Apartments come with the features residents use every day, and staff handle chores that used to eat up a Saturday, from lawn care to light fixtures.

Meals are prepared by an on-site culinary team, with seasonal and rotating menus built partly around resident input, so there is more than one option at most meals. Housekeeping and maintenance are handled by the community's own staff, covering everything from vacuuming to fixing a loose cabinet hinge. A concierge service can arrange dry cleaning, package handling, dining reservations, and scanning or notarizing documents, taking small errands off a resident's list.

A full-time activities staff keeps a calendar that includes arcade and table games, lectures, art classes and live music, and a wellness program looks at strength, balance and flexibility alongside social and recreational options. Scheduled transportation is available for shopping, errands and getting together with friends nearby. A Veterans Program offers savings for residents who served, and residents can build FlexChoice dollars toward optional add-on services such as extra dining or private transportation.

An Ambassador Program recognizes residents who help others settle in, and the community fee is refundable within the first 90 days if the fit is not right. Families comparing the move against other options can look at independent living in Jacksonville before deciding.
